Michelle Jung Studio is pleased to present works on paper. Continuing her exploration of a luminous surface from her previous Mirage and Emerald series, these bodies of work feature recurring motifs of nature and its fragility.

In this presentation, Jung celebrates the merging of nature with digital technology, particularly in the context of manipulating filters. Combining chiaroscuro and glazing techniques reminiscent of Renaissance painters with a monochromatic style inspired by the color field painters of the 1940s and 1950s, Jung introduces an innovative method of creating a luminal surface that becomes translucent and three-dimensional, much like the light of a computer screen. Each of the pieces is a diptych, meaning each consists of two paintings side by side. Both paintings are mirror images of one another. Where the diptych meets, a new image activates and stimulates the viewer, making the viewer cognizant of how they physiologically interact with the artwork.

These paintings are created with the finest materials: Arches oil paper with deckled edges, R& oil sticks, and Vasari oil paints..
