Bridging The Past With The Present
Michelle Jung’s work celebrates nature merging with digital colors. Combining chiaroscuro and glazing techniques suggestive of Renaissance painters and a monochromatic style inspired by the color field painters of the 1940s and 1950s, Jung adds an innovative method of creating a luminal surface that becomes translucent and three-dimensional under light, like that of a computer screen.
In her work, Jung asks: Has modern technology altered our perception of nature, its color palette, and our inclination to manipulate all images with filters? Has the world viewed by computers, mobile phones, and social media forever changed our connection and relationship with nature?
As Jung continues to move her home and studio, her work evolves. It explores the passage of time, existence, and identity while challenging conventional realism.
